Sahish Reddy of Duluth, GA and Thanana Kotchasanmanee of Rome, GA (Thailand) win the Boys and Girls Georgia PGA Junior Championship presented by Piedmont Bank on Wednesday, June 8th at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, GA.
It was a close contested battle for the Overall Boys Division. Going into the final round, there were eight players that were only four shots back of Reddy who sat at one under par. Of those included the 2021 Champion from Cumming, GA, Dax Isbell, who finished at five over par for the tournament, tied for 8th. Sahish Reddy closed his Final Round of the par 71 course, playing 6,955 yards, with a 72 to finish even for the Championship. Brody McQueen of Marietta fired a closing 70 to fall two shots back and a 2nd place finish. The Boys Divisions best final round went to Davis Bagwell of Monroe with a closing 67 that moved him up 19 spots to finish tied for 4th.
There was no close battle for the girls eventual champion. Thanana Kotchasanmanee ran away with the title and posted scores of 70, 66, 71 to finish at nine under par on the par 72 course, playing 6,076 yards. Mary Miller of Savannah finished strong with a 71 to move her into a tie with Reagan Southerland of Atlanta at four over par. These US Women’s Fourball partners played off on hole 18 to see who would move on to the Girls Junior PGA Championship at Cog Hill. Miller had a great sand save and knocked in her birdie putt to claim the last invitation. Hailey Han of Duluth had the best round of the day and carded a 70 and tied for 5th.
The Georgia PGA Junior Championship presented by Piedmont Bank is a 54-hole tournament with a 36-hole cut and had a field size of 156 players. The Boys 11-13 and Girls 11-14 only played 36-holes. The Boys 11-13 Champion was Nicholas Canitano of Milton and he finished at eight under par. The Girls 11-14 Champion was Kallyn Black of Greensboro and finished at ten over par.
Each of the 41 PGA of America Sections have the opportunity to send four players to Illinois (two boys, two girls). Therefore along with Sahish Reddy, Brody McQueen will also be competing at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. For the girls, it will be our Champion Thanana Kotchasanmanee and our Runner-Up, Mary Miller.
The Boys Junior PGA Championship is where some of the best in the world get their start. Many of today’s PGA Tour professionals made their debut at the Championship. Notable past participants Include: Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, David Toms and Phil Mickelson.
The Girls Junior PGA Championship is where some of the best in the world get their start. Many of today’s LPGA Tour professionals made their debut at the Championship. Notable past participants include: Inbee Park, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Grace Park, Michelle Wie, and Dottie Pepper.
