J.P. Griffin, PGA Teaching Professional from Capital City Club – Brookhaven won his 4th Match Play Championship in five years at historic Augusta Country Club. The Championship is presented by Club Car and Global Golf Sales.
Griffin was the one seed and defeated the two seed, Tim Weinhart, PGA of Heritage Golf Links 3&2, as rain and thunderstorms loomed nearby. Both players had the advantage of a 1st round bye in the 62 player field.
Griffin defeated Jacob Tilton, PGA of Ansley Golf Club in the Semi-Finals by winning three out of the last five holes, including an up and down par save on the par 4, 18th hole, for the 1 UP victory to advance to the afternoon. Weinhart defeated Luke James, PGA Director of Golf at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club in his Semi-Final Match. Weinhart was able to close out the match 7&6, on the par 3, 12th hole when James hit his tee shot in the water.
Defending champion Jin Chung and 2022 runner-up Francisco Bide, PGA did not play. For their efforts, Griffin took home the first-place check of $2,400, while Weinhart received $1,600 as the runner-up.
