With Hurricane Idalia bearing down, Troy Spencer, PGA Director of Golf at Marietta Country Club took home the title at the 64th Georgia PGA Championship charged by EnviroSpark and presented by E-Z-GO, PGA Tour, and SCNS Foods at Sea Island Golf Club’s Plantation Course.

Normally a 54-hole Championship, but cut down to an 18-hole Championship due to inclement weather and unplayable course conditions, Spencer won by two strokes at 8-under par, 64, two shots ahead of Francisco Bide, Assistant PGA Professional at Capital City Club. It was decided Monday afternoon that the Championship was only going to be 36-holes, until lingering thunderstorms and course conditions on Tuesday was an issue. The tournament was called and evacuated to get players, Sea Island Staff, and Georgia PGA Staff safely off the island before Hurricane Idalia.

We will be working with Spencer to recognize and celebrate him in the near future in front of our membership

Other notables in the 99 player field was four time champion and Defending Champion, Tim Weinhart, PGA Coach at Heritage Golf Links (T43). He was joined by two other four time champions, PGA Life Member, Stephen Keppler (T5) and PGA Life Member, James Mason (T57). There were 11 total past champions in the field.

The Plantation Course at Sea Island is a par 72 and played at 6,803 yards for the championship.  Brannen Veal is the PGA Director of Golf and Johann Emanuel and Jon Olson are Co-Head PGA Professionals.
