Chris Cartwright, PGA Professional from West Pines Golf Club, won the Georgia PGA Professional Championship. This Championship served as a qualifier to compete in the 56th PGA Professional Championship in the spring of 2024. The qualifier had four spots available along with four alternate spots.

Cartwright turned in a winning total of 7-under par, 137 at Oak Mountain Golf Club in Carrollton for his back-to-back title and won by two shots over PGA Assistant Professional of The Landings Golf & Athletic Club, Pete Vitiello. The other two qualifying spots went to Tim Weinhart, PGA Teaching Professional at Heritage Golf Links and Matt Sanders, PGA Assistant Professional at West Pines Golf Club. Both finished T3 at 4-under par, 140. Anthony Cordes, PGA Assistant Professional at Cherokee Town & Country Club also finished at T3, but was already exempt into the National Championship for finishing in the Top 20 this last year.

Other notables is Troy Spencer, PGA Director of Golf at Marietta Country Club, who finished T17, 2-over par and earned an exemption in August for winning the Georgia PGA Championship at Sea Island Golf Club. The alternates in order are Richard Rebne, PGA Assistant Professional at The Farm, Dan Merriman, PGA Assistant Professional at Peachtree Golf Club, Jacob Tilton, PGA Teaching Professional at Ansley Golf Club, and Ryan Moseley, PGA Head Professional at Druid Hills Golf Club. For Cartwright’s efforts, he earned the first-place check of $3,000.

The National Championship brings together a field of 312 contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections. The PGA Professional Championship, carrying a $550,000 total purse this year, is broadcast (all four rounds) by Golf Channel. Following 36 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 90 scorers and ties, and following 54 holes of play, the field will be trimmed to the low 70 scorers and ties.

The low 20 scorers in 2024 will earn berths into the 106th PGA Championship in May, at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY.
