We had a showdown at Peachtree between two familiar champions this year at the National Car Rental Georgia Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Jin Chung of Château Élan Golf Club defeated Ted Moon of Heritage Golf Links in a one-hole playoff after both shot seven under par in this 36-hole Championship.

Chung, the Georgia PGA Match Play Champion, was down two after the completion of the 1st round shotgun when he carded a 68. Atlanta Open Champion, Moon, and Assistant PGA Professional Nix Duncan from Cherokee Town & Country Club, lead after round one with a pair of 66’s. Once all scores for round one were returned, the 52 player field was re-paired and sent back out for round two. All three players were paired together and it was game on. Moon took a four shot lead after eagling the par five, 2nd hole. He gave a shot back on hole nine and Chung shot three under through hole 17. Tied at the par four, 18th hole, Ted hit a 40 yard bunker shot to four feet to par the hole and to force a playoff where Jin Chung claimed victory. For Jin’s efforts, he took home the check of $2,000.

The 2021 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Champion, Jin Chung, will have another chance to defend his title in Port St. Lucie, FL on November 17-20 at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course. He will be joined by Nix Duncan who finished 3rd at four under and Hunter Suggs of Chimney Oaks Golf Club who finished 4th at minus three. Our 1st alternate is Nathan Desens of Ohoopee Match Club. Chad Thomas defeated his co-worker, Roger Myers of Cherokee Town & Country Club, in a one hole playoff to claim the 2nd alternate position. Last year’s Champion, Greg Edwards of East Lake Golf Club, did not compete.

Unlike the individual PGA Section Championships, the National Championship states that B-6’s (Assistant Golf Instructors) are not eligible for the tournament. Unfortunately with his current classification, Ted Moon will not be able to participate in this years Championship.
