Highlighted by his outstanding and consistent play all year, PGA head professional Kyle Owen of Dunwoody Country Club recently earned his first Georgia PGA Player of the Year title presented by OMEGA.
Owen started the year with a second place finish back in May at the Rivermont Championship, which was conducted at Rivermont Golf Club. He kept up his strong play into the summer months. In June, the forty-five year old from Marietta finished in second place at the Yamaha Atlanta Open played at Echelon Golf Club in Alpharetta.
In July, Owen recorded a 29th place finish at The Championship at Berkeley Hills, which is played annually at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth. Rounding out his summer, he finished in second place at the Georgia PGA Match Play Championship at Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta, and recorded a tie for 6th place at the E-Z-GO Georgia PGA Championship at the Seaside Course at famed Sea Island Golf Club.
This week, Owen finished in a tie for 4th place at the Georgia PGA Professional Championship at the Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans and secured the Player of the Year honors by a slim margin over nine-time Section Player of the Year Tim Weinhart. By claiming the 2017 Georgia PGA Player of the Year title presented by OMEGA and the coveted Billy Weir Trophy, Owen will receive an exemption into the RSM Classic PGA Tour event at Sea Island Golf Club this November.
