About the Georgia Section PGA
The Georgia PGA is one of the 41 Sections of The PGA of America. Its membership includes over 850 PGA Professionals working at over 260 golf courses, clubs, and ranges throughout the state. Additionally, more than 20 Georgia PGA members compete on one of the PGA Tours. In keeping with the fundamental objectives laid down by its founders, one of the Georgia PGA's primary goals is promoting the game of golf through clinics, junior and minority golf programs, consumer programs, and print and television media.
A number of programs have been established to accomplish the goals of the Georgia PGA. Developed in 1991, the Georgia PGA Golf Pass is a program that has enjoyed overwhelming success. The only Georgia PGA-sponsored discount golf program, the Golf Pass is designed to allow golf enthusiasts to play some of the state's top courses at very reasonable prices. In addition to terrific discounts to the top golf facilities in Georgia, the Golf Pass also offers discounted lessons from PGA teaching professionals and over 35 courses that offer a free round of golf. In addition to the golf savings, the Golf Pass offers the consumer over 300,000 savings on dining, shopping and travel all over the United States.
In the area of print media, we have teamed up with Golf Media, Inc. to publish FORE Georgia, the Official Newspublication of the Georgia PGA. FORE Georgia is published ten (10) times per year, and includes features such as Instruction Fore You, Golf Fore Juniors and Course Reviews. In each issue readers will also find articles covering the latest golf technology, profiles on some of the state's top courses, tournament calendars and results.
The Georgia PGA staff and membership also lend a great deal of time to assisting with charity golf tournaments. The Georgia PGA helps support, promote and coordinate the annual Marriott Children’s Charity Pro-Am, J. Smith Lanier Comapny Brain Tumor Foundation Charity Classic and the Swing Fore a Cure American Cancer Society Pro-Am.
Yet another way we encourage participation in the game of golf is through our Corporate Golf Program. Through its experienced staff and its 850-plus golf professionals, the Georgia PGA is able to offer companies corporate golf outings tailored to their specific needs. By speaking with corporations and conference planners, the Georgia PGA feels it can offer the ideal atmosphere to entertain clients, motivate staff, and add variety to ordinary meetings.
Although the Georgia PGA spends a great deal of time promoting the game of golf to the general public, its primary focus is its membership. A number of committees have been established - from Education to Employment to Tournaments - to ensure as many members as possible have a voice in the organization.
The Georgia PGA membership also enjoys a very successful tournament season, which typically runs from late March to early December. The 30-plus-event season usually begins with the Pro-Pro Scramble and commences with the Pro-Pro Championship. In addition to section events, the Georgia PGA tournament staff also conducts numerous Tour event qualifiers, a PGA Tour qualifying tournament, and Pro-Ams.
